Description
The Robertshaw O10-2054 is a high pressure or head pressure control for refrigeration systems.
Head pressure control and high pressure safety are related but distinct functions, and a single control may perform either depending on how it is applied.
A high pressure safety stops the compressor when discharge pressure reaches a dangerous level. Its setpoint is near the upper limit of the system's design and it should never operate in normal service.
A head pressure control manages condensing pressure during normal operation, typically by cycling or modulating condenser fans, to keep the pressure differential across the metering device adequate. It operates routinely by design.
Confusing the two produces predictable errors. A safety control set low enough to act as an operating control will nuisance trip. An operating control set high enough to serve as a safety will not protect.
Systems generally require both, and where only one control is present it is worth establishing which function it performs before adjusting anything.
The control's setpoint, differential, and reset behaviour together indicate its intended role.
Applications include commercial refrigeration, walk-in coolers and freezers, and air cooled condensing units.
