Description

The Johnson Controls P100AP-356C is a low pressure control with an approximate 45 PSI setting.

Every pressure control operates on two figures rather than one: the pressure at which the contacts change state, and the differential, which is the pressure change required before they change back. On a low pressure control, the cut-out is the pressure at which it opens on falling pressure, and the cut-in is the higher pressure at which it recloses.

The differential between them is what prevents the control from chattering. Without it, a system sitting exactly at the setpoint would cycle continuously as pressure fluctuated marginally either side. A properly set differential ensures that once the control operates, pressure must change meaningfully before it resets.

Setting the differential too narrow produces short cycling, which on a compressor is destructive. Setting it too wide allows the system to run further outside its intended range before the control acts.

Where a control is adjustable, both figures are set with reference to the system's design conditions and the refrigerant in use, not to generic values.

Applications include commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump systems, as a low pressure safety or as an operating control in pump-down arrangements.
