Product Highlights
Description
The Johnson Controls P100AP-2C is a low pressure control switch with an approximate 60 PSI setting.
A low pressure control monitors refrigerant suction pressure and opens its contacts when pressure falls below its setpoint. Its purpose depends on how it is applied.
As a safety, it protects the compressor from operating with insufficient refrigerant. A system that has lost charge will run with very low suction pressure, and the consequences include inadequate cooling of the compressor motor, which is refrigerant cooled in hermetic and semi-hermetic designs, and the risk of drawing air and moisture into the system if the low side goes into a vacuum.
As an operating control, a low pressure switch can cycle the compressor in a pump-down arrangement, where the liquid line solenoid closes and the compressor runs until suction pressure falls, ensuring refrigerant is stored in the receiver during the off cycle.
A low pressure control that trips repeatedly is reporting a real condition and should not be reset without investigation. Loss of charge, a restricted metering device, a blocked filter drier, or loss of evaporator airflow all present this way.
Applications include commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump systems.
