Johnson Controls High Pressure In 475PSI P100CP-165C

The Johnson Controls P100CP-165C is a high pressure control with an approximate 475 PSI setting.

The 475 PSI figure places this control in the range appropriate to higher pressure refrigerants, where normal operating condensing pressures are substantially above those of older refrigerants.

This distinction has become important as the industry has moved through successive refrigerant generations. A high pressure control appropriate for an R-22 system is entirely unsuitable for equipment running a higher pressure replacement, because normal operating pressure on the newer refrigerant may approach or exceed the older control's cut-out. The system would trip on high pressure during ordinary operation.

The reverse error is more dangerous. A control with too high a setting fitted to a lower pressure system provides no meaningful protection, since the pressure required to trip it may exceed what the system's components can withstand.

For that reason, high pressure controls must be selected against the refrigerant and the equipment's design pressures, and any refrigerant retrofit requires the pressure controls to be reviewed rather than left as found.

Applications include commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump systems using higher pressure refrigerants.
