Johnson Controls High Pressure Out P100DA-1C

The Johnson Controls P100DA-1C is a high pressure control for refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Automatic reset and manual reset are the two behaviours a safety pressure control can have, and the choice between them is a deliberate safety decision rather than a convenience.

An automatic reset control recloses once pressure returns within its differential, and the equipment restarts without intervention. This suits conditions that are transient and self correcting, such as a temporary rise in head pressure on an unusually hot day.

A manual reset control latches open and requires someone to attend and press the reset before the equipment can run. This is required where a trip indicates a condition that will not correct itself and that would recur immediately on restart, and where repeated automatic restarts into the fault would cause damage.

The practical value of manual reset is that it guarantees the fault is seen by a person. An automatic reset control can trip and reset repeatedly for weeks, with nobody aware that the equipment is operating at its limit, until something fails.

Where a system trips repeatedly on an automatic reset control, the fault is being masked rather than absent.

Applications include commercial refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
