Product Highlights
Description
The Johnson Controls P100CP-2C is a high pressure control with an approximate 325 PSI setting.
Diagnosing a high pressure trip follows a logical sequence, and working through it is considerably faster than replacing components.
Begin by confirming the trip is real. Connect gauges and observe actual discharge pressure during operation. A system tripping at pressures well below the control's setpoint has a control fault; one genuinely reaching the setpoint has a system fault.
Where the pressure is genuinely high, the condenser is the first place to look. A coil blocked with dirt, leaves, or grass clippings, or one whose fins are flattened, cannot reject heat. A failed or reversed condenser fan produces the same result immediately.
If the condenser is clear and the fan is working, consider charge. An overcharged system stores excess refrigerant in the condenser, reducing the surface available for condensing and raising pressure.
Non-condensable gases, generally air introduced through poor service practice, raise head pressure disproportionately and are identified by comparing measured pressure against the saturation pressure for the measured condenser temperature.
Applications include commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump systems.
