Robertshaw Automatic Pilot Relight Kit 785-001

The Robertshaw 785-001 is an automatic pilot relight kit for standing pilot gas appliances.

An automatic relight system addresses the principal operational weakness of standing pilot equipment: a pilot that goes out leaves the appliance inoperative until someone relights it manually.

For most appliances that is an inconvenience. For some it is a genuine problem. A unit heater in an unoccupied building, a pool heater, a heater protecting a space from freezing, or equipment in a location that is rarely visited will simply stop working, and the consequence may not be discovered until damage has occurred.

An automatic relight system detects the loss of pilot and attempts re-ignition, restoring operation without intervention.

The safety logic remains intact. The system does not simply admit gas: it attempts ignition a limited number of times and locks out if the pilot cannot be established, so a genuine fault does not result in continued gas release.

Installation requires the kit to be compatible with the appliance and its existing gas control arrangement, and the safety functions must be verified after fitting by extinguishing the pilot and observing the response.

Applications include unit heaters, pool heaters, freeze protection heating, and standing pilot appliances in unattended locations.
