BASO Universal Pilot J999MYA-2H

The BASO J999MYA-2H is a universal pilot burner assembly supplied in a two pack.

Adjusting a pilot flame correctly is a skill worth describing, since a badly adjusted pilot is the root of many intermittent standing pilot faults.

The flame should be steady, predominantly blue, and of a size that envelops the upper third or so of the thermocouple or thermopile tip. It should reach the main burner sufficiently to carry ignition across promptly when the gas valve opens.

A flame that is too small will not heat the sensing device to full output, producing a system that works when everything else is perfect and drops out when anything is marginal. A flame that is too large wastes gas continuously, can overheat the sensing device and shorten its life, and may lift from the burner and become unstable.

A yellow flame indicates incomplete combustion, usually from a blocked orifice or restricted primary air, and produces soot that will foul the sensing device.

Where the appliance has a pilot adjustment, it is set with the appliance in its normal operating condition and the burner compartment closed, since airflow affects the flame.

Applications include commercial cooking equipment, boilers, water heaters, and standing pilot appliances.
