BASO Universal Pilot J999MKA-2H

The BASO J999MKA-2H is a universal pilot burner assembly supplied in a two pack.

Pilot burner problems account for a large share of standing pilot appliance faults, and the causes are consistent enough to be worth listing.

Blocked orifices are the commonest. Dust, rust particles from the gas line, and the fine debris that accumulates in any long standing installation gradually restrict the small pilot orifice. The result is a diminished flame that no longer heats the sensing device adequately.

Insects are the second. Spiders in particular are attracted to the odorant in natural gas and build webs in pilot tubes and orifices, which is why appliances that have stood idle through a summer frequently will not light in autumn.

Corrosion and scale on the pilot burner itself distorts the flame shape.

And drafts extinguish pilots in appliances located where air movement reaches the burner compartment.

The remedy for the first three is cleaning rather than replacement, and a pilot assembly is generally replaced only when the burner is corroded beyond cleaning or the bracket is damaged.
