BASO Safety Pilot Switch L62GB-3C

The BASO L62GB-3C is a safety pilot switch, providing pilot supervision in gas fired appliances.

Pilot supervision is the safety function that ensures gas cannot flow to the main burner unless a pilot flame is present to light it. The device monitors the pilot through a thermocouple or thermopile and interrupts the gas supply if the flame is lost.

The reason this matters is straightforward. Without supervision, a pilot extinguished by a draught, a spill, a gas interruption, or simply time, would leave a system that admits gas to the main burner on the next call with nothing to ignite it. Gas accumulates, and eventually finds an ignition source.

Every standing pilot appliance therefore has some form of this protection, and it is never to be bypassed, jumpered, or defeated to make equipment run. An appliance whose safety pilot device will not hold has a fault that must be found, not worked around.

Diagnosis follows the standard sequence: verify the pilot flame is correct, measure the thermocouple or thermopile output, check the connection at the device, and only then suspect the device itself.
