Milwaukee MIL48-22-0225M Tape Measure Double-Sided Hook 25 ft Steel 2.35 Inch

The Milwaukee MIL48-22-0225M is a tape measure with a double-sided hook, 25 ft blade, automatic spring driven retraction, ABS case in red and black, steel blade in yellow.

The double-sided hook is the specification and it addresses a real annoyance. A conventional tape hook grabs from one side — you hook it over an edge and pull. That works until the measurement needs to be taken from a surface the hook cannot reach around, or from above, at which point the tape gets held in place with a thumb and the measurement is a guess.

A double-sided hook grabs from either face. It hooks over the top of material as readily as under it, which means a tape that works in orientations a conventional hook does not.

Worth understanding about any tape hook: it floats, deliberately. The rivets are slotted so the hook slides by exactly its own thickness — which makes the tape read correctly both hooked over an edge and butted against one. That float is not looseness and it should not be tightened.

The automatic spring retraction is standard, and worth respecting: 25 feet of steel blade returning at full speed is a genuine laceration hazard. Control it back rather than letting it snap.

Note the stated blade width of 2.35 inch is implausible for a tape blade — verify.
