The MCR Safety MCR2003X4 is a Classic 3-piece PVC/polyester rain suit, 0.35 mm, yellow, 4X-Large, case quantity 20.

At 4X-Large this is the top of the size range, and rain suit sizing deserves a word because it catches people out more than any other garment.

A rain suit is outerwear. It goes over workwear, over a hi-vis vest, frequently over a jacket, and in winter over insulation. Ordering the wearer's shirt size produces a suit that cannot be fastened over what they actually wear, or that binds so tightly at the shoulders that they take it off within an hour.

The rule is to size up from the wearer's normal size, and to size up further for anyone wearing winter layers underneath. A rain suit that is slightly too large is fine — it is not a fitted garment. One that is slightly too small is unusable.

The wider size range on a rain suit also reflects that it is issued rather than chosen. Crews get what is in the truck, and a facility that stocks only through XL has crew members working wet.

PVC over polyester at 0.35 mm is a mid-weight construction: the scrim gives tear strength, the PVC keeps water out, and nothing about it breathes.
