Mars Pressure Switch Jard 10/25 LP Open On FA

The Mars M43943 is a Jard low pressure switch with settings of approximately 10 and 25 PSI, opening on a fall in pressure.

The electrical rating of a pressure control is a specification that receives less attention than its pressure settings and is equally capable of causing a failure.

Pressure controls in most modern systems are wired in the control circuit, where they interrupt a contactor coil drawing a modest current. This is pilot duty service, and controls rated for it have contacts sized accordingly.

In some installations, particularly smaller or older equipment, a pressure control may switch the compressor load directly. That requires contacts rated for the full running and starting current of the compressor, which is an entirely different specification.

Fitting a pilot duty rated control into a circuit switching a motor load directly produces welded contacts, generally quickly, and a control with welded contacts provides no protection at all while appearing to be present and functional.

Confirming what the control actually switches, rather than assuming it is in the control circuit, is the check that prevents this.

Applications include low temperature commercial refrigeration and freezer systems.
