Product Highlights
Description
The Mars M43341 is a low pressure switch for refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
A low pressure trip reports that suction pressure has fallen below the control's setpoint, and the causes divide into three categories.
Loss of refrigerant is the first and most common. A system that has leaked runs at reduced suction pressure, and the trip is doing its job by stopping the compressor before it runs starved of the returning gas that cools its motor.
Restriction is the second. A blocked filter drier, a partially closed or failed metering device, a kinked liquid line, or moisture frozen at the expansion device all reduce flow to the evaporator, producing low suction pressure with a normal charge. The distinguishing sign is a temperature difference across the restriction.
Loss of evaporator load is the third. Failed evaporator fans, a heavily iced coil, a blocked filter, or closed dampers reduce the heat reaching the refrigerant, so it boils at a lower pressure. On refrigeration this frequently follows a defrost failure.
Distinguishing these requires gauges and temperatures, not pressure alone.
Applications include commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump systems.
