Mars High Pressure Switch 450/2 M43334

The Mars M43334 is a high pressure switch with an approximate 450 PSI cut-out.

The presence of non-condensable gases is a high pressure cause that is frequently overlooked because it does not respond to the usual remedies. Cleaning the condenser and confirming the fan works will not reduce head pressure if air is present in the system.

Air enters through poor service practice: a system opened and not properly evacuated, a leak on the low side that has allowed the system to run in a vacuum, or refrigerant transferred without care. Once present, it collects in the condenser, where it occupies volume that should be condensing refrigerant and exerts its own partial pressure on top of the refrigerant's.

The diagnostic is a comparison. With the system off and settled at a stable temperature, measure the pressure and compare it against the saturation pressure for the refrigerant at that temperature. A measured pressure significantly above the saturation value indicates non-condensables.

The remedy is recovery, evacuation to a deep vacuum verified with a micron gauge, and recharging by weight.

Applications include commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump systems.
