Product Highlights
Description
The Mars M43306 is a fan cycling pressure switch with settings of approximately 210 and 275 PSI.
Fan cycling is one of several approaches to head pressure control in low ambient conditions, and it is worth knowing where it sits among the alternatives.
Fan cycling is the simplest and least expensive method, and it is adequate for many applications. Its limitation is that it is a coarse control: the fan is either running or stopped, and head pressure consequently swings between the switch's two operating points rather than being held steady.
Fan speed control, using a variable speed drive or a pressure responsive motor control, modulates the fan rather than cycling it, which holds head pressure more steadily and eliminates the cycling wear on the fan and its contactor.
Condenser flooding controls, which back refrigerant up into the condenser to reduce its effective surface, hold pressure very steadily but require a receiver and additional valving.
For systems operating in genuinely cold climates or requiring stable operation, the more sophisticated methods earn their cost. For moderate conditions, fan cycling is generally sufficient.
Applications include commercial refrigeration and air conditioning with air cooled condensers.
