The Little Giant ACS-2 is a condensate pan safety switch, mounted at the drain pan to shut down air conditioning equipment on a rising water level.

Condensate switches are frequently fitted in pairs on installations where the consequences of a leak are serious. One switch senses the primary drain or pan and stops the equipment on a blockage; a second, in the secondary or auxiliary pan, provides a backup should the first fail or should water bypass it. Because the secondary pan should never contain water under normal operation, any water reaching it indicates a fault that has already progressed past the primary protection.

That layered approach is standard practice on attic installations and on any equipment above a finished space, and many jurisdictions require it.

A point worth emphasising at commissioning: a condensate switch that has never been tested cannot be assumed to work. Float mechanisms seize with age and biological growth, wiring is occasionally connected to the wrong side of the control circuit, and switches are sometimes fitted but never wired at all. Physically raising the float and confirming the equipment stops takes a moment and is the only proof.

Applications include residential and light commercial air handlers, fan coils, evaporator coils, and secondary drain pans.
