DiversiTech Safety Overflow Switch SOS-1

The DiversiTech SOS-1 is a safety overflow switch, installed to interrupt equipment operation when condensate reaches an overflow condition.

Condensate overflow protection is one of the highest value additions available on air conditioning equipment, measured against the cost of the damage it prevents. A blocked drain on an attic or ceiling mounted air handler discharges water continuously into the structure below, and because the system continues to cool normally, nothing alerts the occupant until staining appears on a ceiling. By that point the insulation is saturated, the drywall is damaged, and there is frequently mould growth in the cavity.

A shutoff switch converts that into a service call. The equipment stops, the occupant notices the lack of cooling immediately, and a technician clears the drain before any water escapes the pan.

The switch is wired in series with the equipment's control circuit, typically in the thermostat call for cooling, so that a trip stops the compressor and the condensate production with it.

Installation should place the switch to trip with adequate margin below the overflow level, and its operation should be verified at commissioning by physically triggering it rather than assumed.

Applications include residential and light commercial air handlers, fan coils, evaporator coils, and secondary drain pans.
