Product Highlights
Description
The Klein Tools KLT3256 is a broad head bull pin with an angled head design, 1-1/16 inch size, 10 inch long, in steel, with a 1/4 inch point diameter and 1-1/16 inch top diameter, black.
The angled head is the distinguishing feature and it exists for a real situation. A bull pin is driven with a hammer, and hammering requires swinging room — which structural steel does not always provide. In tight quarters, against a flange, up inside a connection, a straight-headed pin presents its striking face where the hammer cannot reach it. An angled head turns the striking surface toward the swing.
The 10 inch length reinforces the same intent. This is the compact pin in the range, against 13-3/4 inches for the long one, and compact is what fits a confined connection.
The dimensions describe the taper: 1/4 inch at the point to 1-1/16 inch at the top over 10 inches. That taper is what aligns misaligned bolt holes as the pin is driven — structural steel never lines up, and the pin forces the members into register.
Broad head means a larger striking surface: more target, and slower to mushroom. Mushroomed tool heads shed steel splinters, which is a known eye injury cause.
Applications include structural steel erection, bridge work, and heavy fabrication.
Inspect the head and retire the pin once it begins to mushroom.
