Product Highlights
Description
The Klein Tools KLT3222 is a structural erection wrench with a heavy-duty continuous taper handle for US heavy nuts, for 3/4 inch bolts, 16-5/8 inch long, 2-1/2 inch head width, 1-1/8 inch nominal opening.
The tapered handle is the tool, and this is the thing people miss when they look at a spud wrench and see a wrench with an odd handle. The taper is a working end. Structural steel arrives with bolt holes that do not line up — they never line up — and the ironworker drives the tapered handle through the misaligned holes and levers the members into register. Only then does the box end go on the nut.
That is why the handle is a continuous taper rather than a grip: it is being driven into holes and pried against, which is abuse no ordinary wrench handle would survive.
The 3/4 inch bolt and 1-1/8 inch opening pairing is worth noting for anyone unfamiliar: a 3/4 inch heavy hex structural nut takes a 1-1/8 inch wrench. Heavy hex nuts are larger across the flats than standard nuts of the same thread size, which is why a structural wrench sizing does not match a general wrench sizing.
At 16-5/8 inches the leverage suits structural bolting.
Applications include structural steel erection, bridge work, and heavy fabrication.
