Jackson Safety JKS14767 Ruler Wrap-A-Round 2X-Large 9 ft 5 Inch Gray

The Jackson Safety JKS14767 is a Wrap-A-Round ruler, 2X-Large, 9 ft long, 5 inch wide, gray, for pipe diameters 6 inch to 16 inch.

This is the gray version of the largest wrap in the range — identical in length, width, and pipe capacity to the black 2X-Large, differing only in colour.

Colour is a working consideration on a wrap rather than a cosmetic one, because the wrap is a marking surface as well as a template. Soapstone and marker show differently against different backgrounds, and a fitter marking inside a ditch or under a rack needs the contrast that reads in that light. Some operations also colour-code wraps by size, which is a small thing that stops the wrong wrap coming out of the truck for a 16 inch pipe.

The function is the geometry. A pipe has no edge to reference and no flat for a square, so a line marked freehand around it spirals and returns above or below its start. On a 16 inch pipe the circumference is over four feet — the fitter cannot see where the line began by the time they finish it, and the error compounds the whole way. Wrapped with edges aligned, the ruler's edge describes a true plane perpendicular to the axis.

Applications include large-bore process piping, pipeline work, refineries, and tank fabrication.
