Description
The Jackson Safety JKS14764 is a Wrap-A-Round ruler, large size, 6 ft long, 3.88 inch wide, gray, for pipe diameters 3 inch to 10 inch.
This is the gray version of the large wrap, and the colour is the entire difference — same 6 ft length, same 3.88 inch width, same 3 to 10 inch pipe range as the black one.
Colour on a wrap-around is a working consideration rather than a preference, because the wrap is a marking surface as much as a template. Soapstone and marker read differently against different backgrounds, and a fitter marking on a wrap in a dark ditch or under a rack wants the contrast that works in that light. Some shops also use colour to separate wraps by size or by crew, which is a small thing that stops the wrong wrap being grabbed.
The function is unchanged. A pipe offers no edge to reference and no flat for a square, so a freehand line around its circumference spirals and returns off its start. Wrapped with edges aligned, the ruler's edge describes a true plane perpendicular to the axis.
Applications include pipe fitting, process piping, refineries, shipyards, and mechanical construction.
