Jackson Safety JKS14754 Ruler Wrap-A-Round X-Large 7 ft 5 Inch Black

The Jackson Safety JKS14754 is a Wrap-A-Round ruler, X-Large, 7 ft long, 5 inch wide, black, for pipe diameters 4 inch to 12 inch.

Note the width change: 5 inches here against 3.88 on the medium and large wraps. That is not incidental. A wider wrap gives a longer straightedge to mark against and more body to lie flat on a larger-radius curve without rippling. On a 12 inch pipe, a narrow wrap wants to twist; a wider one sits.

The 4 to 12 inch diameter range moves this into genuine process piping territory — mains, headers, and the larger runs.

The case for a wrap gets stronger as the pipe gets bigger. Error accumulates over circumference, and on a 12 inch pipe the fitter cannot see the start of their line from where they are finishing it. A freehand line spirals and comes back off its start; a pipe cut to it is out of square and will not seat against its fitting.
