Jackson Safety JKS14753 Ruler Wrap-A-Round Large 6 ft 3.88 Inch Black

The Jackson Safety JKS14753 is a Wrap-A-Round ruler, large size, 6 ft long, 3.88 inch wide, black, for pipe diameters 3 inch to 10 inch.

The 3 to 10 inch range makes this the broadest wrap in the Jackson family, spanning from small-bore work up into the mid-range mains that most industrial pipe fitting revolves around. If a shop is buying one wrap, this range covers the most ground.

The reason to use one is geometric rather than a matter of care. There is no way to mark a square line around a pipe by eye — no edge to reference, no flat for a square. A freehand line spirals around the circumference and returns off its start, and a pipe cut to a spiral is cut out of square. That end will not seat flat against its fitting.

Wrapped with its edges brought together, the ruler's edge describes a true plane perpendicular to the axis. Mark to it.

Note the length-to-diameter relationship: 6 ft of wrap serves up to 10 inch pipe, because circumference is roughly three times diameter and the wrap needs overlap to align its edges. That arithmetic is why the sizes exist.

Applications include pipe fitting, process piping, refineries, shipyards, and mechanical construction.
