Product Highlights
Description
The Irwin IRW29 is a locking pinch off tool, 7 inch x 175 mm.
A pinch off tool is a specialist locking plier and it does one job precisely: it crimps a soft tube closed and holds it there. The jaws are shaped to flatten a line without cutting it, and the locking mechanism holds the crimp without anyone standing there holding the handles.
The application that made it standard equipment is refrigeration and automotive service — pinching a refrigerant, fuel, coolant, brake, or vacuum line closed so a component downstream can be removed without draining the entire system. Without one, the job means catching fluid, losing charge, and refilling and bleeding afterward.
The locking action is essential rather than convenient. A technician needs both hands for the component being changed, and a spring clamp that has to be held is no use at all.
One honest caution: pinching a line deforms it. Soft copper, rubber, and plastic tolerate it within reason; hard lines and lines that have already been pinched do not, and a line crimped repeatedly at the same point will eventually crack there. Pinch clean, unfatigued sections.
Applications include refrigeration and HVAC service, automotive and fleet maintenance, plumbing, and general mechanical work.
