The Irwin IRW2078306 is a pair of Vise-Grip diagonal cutting pliers, 6 inch / 150 mm, in nickel chromium steel, with a 13/16 inch jaw length, 27/32 inch jaw width, and 13/32 inch jaw thickness.

Diagonal cutters — dikes, side cutters, wire cutters — cut by wedging rather than shearing. The two edges meet and drive into the material from both sides until it parts. That mechanism is what makes them fast and what limits them: they are excellent on wire and small stock and they will be destroyed by anything harder than they are.

That last point is where most cutters die. Hardened material — spring steel, hardened fasteners, music wire, nails — will chip the edges of a standard cutter on the first attempt, and a chipped cutter never cuts cleanly again. If the job involves hardened wire, it needs a cutter specifically rated for it.

Nickel chromium steel provides the hardness the edges require alongside the toughness to resist chipping.

The 6 inch size is compact — for electronics, panel work, cable ties, and detail work rather than heavy conductors. Larger conductors want a larger cutter, and forcing a 6 inch cutter through wire it was not built for springs the joint.
