Hart & Cooley 672 30X6 043372 White Return Air Grille

The Hart & Cooley 43372 is a 672 series return air grille measuring 30 by 6 inches nominal, finished in white steel.

The 30 by 6 proportion is a long, narrow grille, and grilles of this shape exist to fit locations where depth is severely constrained. Toe kick spaces beneath cabinetry, the area above a door, narrow soffits, stair risers, and shallow bulkheads all present a long horizontal opening with very little height available, and a conventional grille simply will not fit.

The consequence of the shape is limited free area. The frame occupies a substantial proportion of a six inch high grille, so the air passing capacity is considerably less than the gross dimension suggests. A narrow grille pushed to carry the airflow its length implies will run at high face velocity and be audible.

For that reason, long narrow grilles are best used as supplementary returns or in locations where the airflow requirement is modest, rather than as the primary return on a system. Where a constrained location must carry substantial airflow, two grilles are usually a better answer than one.

The 672 series has no filter frame; the system filter is located at the air handler.

Applications include residential and light commercial returns in toe kicks, soffits, above doors, and other shallow locations.
