The Hart & Cooley 43375 is a 672 series return air grille measuring 30 by 12 inches nominal, finished in white steel.

Bar spacing and sight lines are the visual characteristic that distinguishes return grilles from one another at a glance. The 672 series uses closely spaced fixed bars set at an angle, which obscures the view into the duct behind while presenting an even, uniform face. That matters more than it might appear: a return grille at eye level in a hallway with a clear view into a dusty duct is an immediate impression of a poorly maintained building.

The bar arrangement also has an acoustic dimension. Angled bars break up the direct line between the room and the duct, which provides a small measure of attenuation for noise travelling along the return path.

Fixed bars, as distinct from adjustable ones, are correct for return service. There is no reason to deflect return air, and an adjustable grille on a return simply provides an opportunity for someone to close it and starve the system.

The 30 by 12 size suits a wide opening with moderate height, passing a substantial airflow.

The 672 series has no filter frame; the system filter is located at the air handler.
