The Hart & Cooley 43370 is a 672 series return air grille measuring 24 by 24 inches nominal, finished in white steel.

A 24 by 24 inch return is a large square grille suitable as a primary return on a residential system or a substantial return in light commercial work. The dimension also corresponds to the standard suspended ceiling module, though this is a surface mounted grille rather than a lay-in unit, so in a T-bar ceiling a purpose made lay-in return is the appropriate choice.

Location matters as much as size for a return of this capacity. Returns are best placed where they draw air across the occupied space rather than short circuiting from a nearby supply outlet. A return positioned close to a supply diffuser draws conditioned air straight back to the equipment without it having circulated through the room, which produces poor temperature distribution and a system that satisfies the thermostat while leaving parts of the space unconditioned.

Central hallway locations, and positions on the opposite side of a room from the supply outlets, both promote proper circulation.

The 672 series has no filter frame, so the system filter must be located at the air handler.

Applications include residential and light commercial return air installations in walls and ceilings.
