Guardair GUA75LJ018AA Long John With 18" Alum Ext & Alloy Nozzle

The Guardair GUA75LJ018AA is a Long John safety air gun with an 18 inch aluminium extension and alloy nozzle.

At 18 inches this is the mid-length Long John, and the reach is what it is bought for. It puts the nozzle inside a machine enclosure, down into a deep fixture, into the back of a lathe or mill, or along a conveyor — positions where the operator's arm cannot follow and should not try.

That last part is the real argument. The alternative to an extension is reaching in, and reaching into a machine to blow out chips means putting a hand among sharp, hot swarf, frequently near components that are guarded for a reason. An 18 inch extension means the hand stays outside.

The trade against a longer extension is control. A wand is harder to aim precisely as it gets longer, and 18 inches is a reasonable balance for most enclosed machine work.

The safety designation is regulatory. OSHA restricts compressed air used for cleaning to below 30 psi dead-end pressure, because air at line pressure driven through skin causes serious injection injury. Safety guns relieve pressure through ports when the tip is blocked; ordinary blow guns do not. Chip guarding and eye protection are still required.

Aluminium keeps the extension light enough to hold at arm's length; the alloy nozzle resists wear.
