An inspection mirror is one of those tools whose value is obvious only after you have spent twenty minutes trying to see something you cannot see. Behind an engine block, inside a machine frame, under a vehicle, behind a panel, into a bore — there are countless positions where the eye cannot go and a hand can. The mirror puts the view where the eye cannot reach.

The dual ball-and-socket joints are what make it work rather than frustrate. A mirror on a fixed stem must be positioned by moving the whole tool, which in a confined space means it cannot be aimed at all. Two independent joints let the mirror be set at any angle relative to the arm, so the arm goes where there is room and the mirror looks where you need.
