ESP Z-Tool Dual Nut Drive ZT10

The ESP ZT10 Z-Tool is a dual ended nut driver designed for sheet metal and equipment fasteners.

Nut drivers are the standard tool for hex head sheet metal screws, and a dual ended design covering the two common sizes removes the need to carry and swap between separate drivers.

The 1/4 inch and 5/16 inch hex sizes account for the great majority of self drilling screws used in duct and equipment work, so a single tool covering both handles most fastening encountered on a service call.

The offset Z configuration provides clearance where a straight driver cannot be positioned, and it allows leverage to be applied in confined spaces where a conventional handle would not fit.

Fit quality is what determines whether a driver preserves or destroys fastener heads. A driver that is worn, or a size mismatched, rounds the hex and leaves a screw that cannot be driven or removed. Since sheet metal assemblies are opened repeatedly over their life, a rounded screw is a problem inherited by every technician who follows.

Drivers are inexpensive and wear is easy to see. Replacing a worn driver is cheaper than dealing with a rounded fastener in an awkward position.

Confirm the sizes suit the fasteners encountered, inspect the drive recesses for wear, and keep the driver square to the fastener when applying force.
