The second is identifying where the blockage is. A line that will not accept water at the equipment end is blocked near the equipment. A line that accepts water but does not discharge is blocked further along.

The third is checking the trap. A trap that is dry, incorrectly formed, or inadequate for the pressure at the connection point produces a pan that overflows with a completely clear line, and no amount of clearing will fix it.
