Empire EPLEM81.12 True Blue Magnetic Tool Box Level Aluminum Frame

The Empire EPLEM81.12 is a True Blue magnetic tool box level in a 12 inch size, with an aluminium frame and four vials reading plumb, level, 45°, and VARI-Pitch. Accuracy is 0.0005 inch, with a top read window, in blue, supplied 1 per pack.

The VARI-Pitch vial is the feature worth understanding, because it is the one a standard level does not have. Ordinary vials tell you when something is level, plumb, or at 45 degrees — three fixed conditions. A VARI-Pitch vial lets the user set and check a chosen slope. That matters enormously in trades where the correct answer is never level: waste and drainage runs, condensate lines, gutters, and duct falls all need a specific, controlled pitch, and a plain level cannot measure one.

The 0.0005 inch accuracy figure is the manufacturer's stated tolerance and it should be read as an accuracy per inch specification rather than an absolute.

The top read window is a practical detail that earns its place overhead and at floor level, where reading a vial through the side of a level means putting your head somewhere it will not go.

The magnetic edge holds the level on steel — studs, duct, conduit, beams, equipment — freeing both hands.

At 12 inches this is a toolbox level, sized to live in a bag and work in confined spaces rather than to span a wall.

Applications include HVAC and duct installation, plumbing and drainage, electrical conduit, steel framing, and equipment setting.
