The Empire EPLE2994 is a True Blue rafter square with a wide flange, in a 7 inch size, constructed in aluminium with permanent laser etched markings, inch graduations, and a 90 degree angle. Supplied 1 per pack.

The wide flange is the working feature and it is what a rafter square is actually used for. The flange is the raised lip along one edge that hooks over the edge of a board. Hooked on, the square registers itself square to that edge automatically — no aligning, no eyeballing, no second hand needed. A carpenter marking a run of cuts drops the square on, marks, and moves. A wider flange registers more solidly and is less inclined to rock on a board with an imperfect edge.

Laser etched markings are the durability specification. A rafter square lives in a bag with hammers and gets used as a saw guide against a circular saw base. Printed markings do not survive that; etched markings do.

The square's real function beyond marking 90 degrees is angle layout — reading rise and run directly off the tool to lay out rafter and hip cuts, and serving as a saw guide for both square and angled cuts.

Aluminium keeps it light enough to live in a bag rather than a truck.
