DiversiTech Wire Nut Wing 18-1 623-006

The DiversiTech 623-006 is a winged twist-on wire connector rated for 18 gauge conductors and above, designed for easier installation in demanding conditions.

The wings are a practical improvement rather than a cosmetic one. Standard twist-on connectors require the installer to grip a smooth tapered shell and apply significant torque, which becomes difficult with cold hands, while wearing gloves, when working overhead, or when making up several heavy conductors in a crowded box. Wings provide leverage, allowing greater torque with less hand strain and producing a more consistently tight connection.

That consistency has a technical consequence. Twist-on connector reliability depends on the spring drawing the conductors into firm contact, and an under-torqued connector leaves a joint that may pass an initial pull test but loosen under thermal cycling. Loose splices in power circuits develop resistance, generate heat, and can progress to a fire hazard over time. Anything that makes achieving full torque easier improves the odds that field installations are made correctly.

Winged connectors also accept a nut driver or wrench in some designs, which is useful when making up multiple heavy conductors.

Applications include branch circuit splices, HVAC equipment connections, junction box and panel wiring, outdoor and attic installations where hand conditions are poor, and general electrical work.

Observe the manufacturer's rated conductor gauge and count range, strip to the specified length, align conductors evenly, twist down until the connector stops, and confirm retention by tugging each conductor individually.
