DiversiTech Wire Nut Blue 22-1 623-002

The DiversiTech 623-002 is a blue twist-on wire connector rated for 22 to 16 gauge conductors, used for joining fine gauge control and signal wiring.

The 22-16 gauge range positions this connector for low voltage control work rather than power circuits. In HVAC and refrigeration installations that covers thermostat cable, sensor leads, communicating control wiring, damper and actuator connections, and interlock circuits. These conductors are too fine to be reliably retained by the larger connectors used on branch circuit wiring, which is why manufacturers produce a distinct size range for them.

Colour coding indicates the rated combination of conductor gauge and count. Each colour corresponds to a specific range published by the manufacturer, and staying within that range is what makes the connection reliable. An oversized connector cannot compress fine conductors sufficiently to hold them, producing a joint that pulls apart or makes intermittent contact. This failure is especially problematic in control circuits, where an intermittent connection generates symptoms that come and go and can consume hours of diagnostic time.

Correct application requires stripping conductors to the manufacturer's specified length, aligning them evenly, and twisting the connector down until it stops. Each conductor should then be tugged individually to confirm retention, and no bare conductor should be exposed below the shell.
