The DiversiTech 6217LX is a package of 50 insulated butt connectors sized for 16 to 14 gauge conductors, used to splice two wires end to end.

Butt connectors provide a mechanically secure, insulated splice where a conductor must be extended, a damaged section removed, or a component pigtail joined to field wiring. The crimp barrel accepts a stripped conductor from each end, and a properly executed crimp produces a cold weld between the conductor strands and the barrel that is both mechanically strong and electrically sound.

Crimp quality determines splice reliability. A correct crimp uses a tool matched to the connector and conductor size, applies full compression, and produces a joint that will not pull apart under reasonable force. An inadequate crimp made with pliers rather than a proper crimp tool leaves a high resistance connection that heats under load, oxidizes progressively, and eventually fails intermittently. In HVAC control circuits this failure mode is particularly frustrating to diagnose because the connection may test fine cold and open only under load or vibration.

The insulation sleeve covers the barrel and part of the conductor insulation, preventing accidental contact and providing limited strain relief.

The 16-14 gauge range covers control wiring, thermostat cable, sensor leads, and small equipment connections common in HVAC and refrigeration service.

Applications include control circuit repair, motor and component lead splicing, sensor wiring, and general low voltage and light power connections. Use the correct crimp tool, verify the splice by pull test, and confirm the connector size matches the conductor gauge.
