DiversiTech Transformer 60A FO PF52460

The DiversiTech PF52460 is a 60 VA control transformer in a foot mount configuration.

Sixty VA occupies a useful middle position between the 40 VA transformers typical of basic residential equipment and the larger units used commercially.

It suits residential systems that have accumulated additional control loads: a zoning panel with a small number of zones, a humidifier and an air cleaner, an economiser, or a heat pump with several contactors and a defrost board. Each of these adds demand, and a system that was adequately served by 40 VA when installed may not be after accessories have been added.

A useful diagnostic for suspected transformer overload is to measure secondary voltage under full demand, with everything the transformer supplies energised simultaneously. A secondary voltage sagging well below its nominal 24 volts under that condition indicates the transformer is at or beyond its capacity, and the resulting low voltage is what causes contactors to chatter.

Measuring at rest, or with only part of the load energised, will not reveal it.

Applications include residential and commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and zoning control circuits.
