DiversiTech Transformer 100A PF524100

The DiversiTech PF524100 is a 100 VA control transformer for HVAC and refrigeration control circuits.

At 100 VA this transformer supplies substantially more capacity than the 40 VA units common in residential equipment, and it suits control circuits with a greater number of loads.

Commercial equipment typically requires it. A rooftop unit or a commercial refrigeration system may have several contactors, multiple relays, solenoid valves, a control board, and accessory devices all fed from one transformer, and the combined demand quickly exceeds what a small transformer provides.

Zoning systems are another common case. A zone panel with several damper actuators, each drawing current, plus the equipment contactors, can exceed a 40 VA transformer's capacity, and undersized transformers are a recurring cause of erratic zone system behaviour.

Upsizing a transformer to solve a capacity problem is generally straightforward, but the circuit protection must be considered alongside it. A larger transformer can deliver more fault current, and the control circuit's protection should suit.

Adding a second transformer for accessories, rather than upsizing, is an alternative, but the two secondaries must not be interconnected.

Applications include commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and zoning control circuits.
