A torque wrench is a measuring instrument and it should be treated like one, which is the thing most shops get wrong.

Three practices govern whether it stays accurate. Store it at its lowest setting — the mechanism is a calibrated spring, and a spring left compressed on a shelf takes a permanent set and drifts.
