ARCAIR AIR2205-3003 3/8X12 Gouging Electrodes Pointed DC 3/8 x 12

The ARCAIR AIR2205-3003 provides 3/8" x 12" pointed DC gouging electrodes for air carbon-arc gouging, supplied 50 per pack.

The step from 1/4" to 3/8" diameter is a step in metal removal rate. A larger electrode carries more current, sustains a wider arc, and cuts a broader, deeper groove per pass. Where a 1/4" electrode is the choice for fine weld repair and controlled work, 3/8" is the size for production removal — stripping out long defective welds, back-gouging heavy plate joints, removing risers and gates from castings, and cutting bevels on structural sections.

Air carbon-arc gouging melts metal with an arc and clears it with a compressed air jet delivered along the electrode. The metal never has to be oxidised to be removed, which is why the process works on materials that oxy-fuel cutting cannot touch, including stainless and cast iron.

The pointed end is tapered from the pack, so the operator can strike an arc immediately rather than dressing the rod.

These are DC electrodes and should be matched to a DC power source; running an electrode on the wrong polarity produces an unstable arc and a ragged groove.

At 12" long, the rods give usable working length before the stub is discarded.
