APEX LFK590GMEN Plumb Bob 1 Inch Brass SAE/Metric 0 Inch-6 Inch 0 mm-150 mm

The LFK590GMEN is a plumb bob with SAE and metric graduations, 1 inch wide, in brass, with a 0 to 6 inch / 0 to 150 mm measuring range, 7.4 inch overall length, 1.1 inch overall height, 1.3 inch overall width, cylindrical, reads up.

The reads-up designation identifies what this actually is, and it is not a general plumb bob. A graduated cylindrical bob reading upward is a gauging bob — it hangs from an oil gauging tape and is lowered into a tank to measure liquid depth. The graduations read from the tip upward, so the wetted portion of the bob can be read directly at the liquid line.

That explains every other specification. The 0 to 6 inch range is the bob's own graduated length, not a measuring capacity. Brass is the material because a bob entering a tank of flammable liquid must not spark — a steel bob striking a steel tank in a hydrocarbon vapour space is an ignition source, and this is not a theoretical concern.

The tank gauging application is why brass is specified across this entire family of tools.

The 1 inch width and cylindrical form let the bob hang true and enter cleanly.

Note the bob cut designation used on oil gauging tapes — bobs and tapes are matched, and the pairing must be correct for the reading to be right.

Applications include tank gauging, petroleum storage, and bulk liquid measurement.
