APEX GRW82301D Indexing Pry Bar Set Pry & Wrecking Alloy Steel Black Phosphate

The GRW82301D is an indexing pry bar set, pry and wrecking type, with 180 degrees of flex and 14 positions. Ends are curved, finish is black phosphate, construction is alloy steel, tip widths are 0.25 inch, 0.375 inch and 0.375 inch, in a 3 piece set.

The indexing head is the feature and it addresses the fundamental limitation of a pry bar: a pry bar is a lever, and a lever only works if you can get the handle where your hands are. A fixed bar reaching into an engine bay or a machine frame frequently ends up with the handle against something solid, leaving nowhere to push. Indexing lets the head lock at a chosen angle through 180 degrees across 14 positions, so the tip goes where the work is and the handle comes out where the hand is.

That is a genuine capability rather than a convenience, because the alternative is a bar that cannot be used at all in that position.

Alloy steel is the necessary material. A pry bar is deliberately used as a lever beyond what most tools see, and a bar that bends or snaps under load fails suddenly and unpleasantly.

Black phosphate resists corrosion and is less slippery in the hand than a polished finish.

The three tip widths cover different gaps and different loads.

Applications include automotive and equipment service, machinery maintenance, demolition, and general mechanical work.

A caution worth stating: pry bars are not chisels or punches. Do not strike them.
