This wrench pairs two specifications that both point the same way: long, and 6 point. That combination is built for one job — fasteners that do not want to move.

The 6 point box end is the important half. Six points contact the fastener on its flats rather than near its corners. Under high torque a 12 point socket or box end concentrates load at the hex corners and rounds them, which turns a tight fastener into a drilled-out one. A 6 point spreads the load across the flats and holds. For removal work, corroded hardware, and anything torqued hard, 6 point is the correct specification and it is not a preference.
