APEX GRW81779 Long Length Combination Wrench 7/8 Inch Alloy Steel 6 Point

The GRW81779 is a long length combination wrench, 6 point, in 7/8 inch SAE, with a full polish chrome finish, alloy steel construction, and a 12.52 inch overall length. End A is open end.

This wrench pairs two specifications that both point the same way: long, and 6 point. That combination is built for one job — fasteners that do not want to move.

The 6 point box end is the important half. Six points contact the fastener on its flats rather than near its corners. Under high torque a 12 point socket or box end concentrates load at the hex corners and rounds them, which turns a tight fastener into a drilled-out one. A 6 point spreads the load across the flats and holds. For removal work, corroded hardware, and anything torqued hard, 6 point is the correct specification and it is not a preference.

The 12.52 inch length supplies the leverage to actually break the fastener loose. Torque is force times distance, and a long handle means less force at the hand for the same torque at the nut — which is both more effective and less likely to end with slipped knuckles.

The trade for both features is access: a long 6 point wrench needs swing room and finds the fastener in a larger arc than a 12 point would.

Applications include automotive and heavy equipment service, structural work, machinery maintenance, and general mechanical work.
