Stubby is the specification and it is a deliberate compromise rather than a shortfall. At 6.5 inches this wrench is substantially shorter than a standard combination wrench of the same size, and the reason to want that is access: there are fasteners in machinery, engine bays, and equipment frames where a full-length wrench simply will not fit between the fastener and whatever is next to it. A stubby gets in.

What you give up is leverage, and the arithmetic is direct — torque is force times distance, so a shorter handle applies less torque for the same effort. A stubby wrench is not the tool for breaking a seized fastener loose. It is the tool for a fastener you can reach and cannot swing a proper wrench at.

The 12 point box end is the other access feature. Twelve points engage the fastener at twice as many positions as six, so the wrench finds the nut in half the swing arc — which matters in exactly the confined spaces a stubby is bought for. The trade is that 12 point contacts nearer the corners of the hex and is more inclined to round a tight fastener.
