APEX GRW80577 Socket Set Bit Socket 3/8 Inch Alloy Steel with S2 Steel Bit

The GRW80577 is a bit socket set with a 3/8 inch drive tang, covering Phillips, slotted, and Pozidriv drive types to a maximum set size of 6 mm and #3. It is standard length, with a full polish chrome holder and black oxide bit, in alloy steel with an S2 steel bit.

The S2 steel specification is the one worth noticing. S2 is a shock-resisting tool steel, and it is used for bits rather than ordinary alloy steel for a specific reason: a bit driven by a ratchet or an impact tool takes sudden torsional loading, and a steel that is merely hard will shatter under it. S2 is formulated to be hard enough to resist wear while tough enough to absorb shock without fracturing. It is the correct choice for a bit that will see power tools.
