Yellow Jacket Tube Expander Swaging Tool 3/16"

The Yellow Jacket 60460 is a swaging tool for 3/16 inch tubing.

Small diameter tubing appears in capillary tube systems, pilot lines, control lines, and small refrigeration equipment, and it requires more care than larger sizes rather than less.

The wall thickness on small tube is proportionally thin, so there is very little material to work with when forming a swage. Overworking it splits the tube, and the split may be small enough to pass inspection while leaking under pressure.

Small tube is also easily distorted by the clamping required to hold it during forming. A tube crushed slightly in the clamp will not swage evenly, and the resulting socket is out of round.

Handling matters equally. Small diameter tube kinks very easily, work hardens quickly, and is difficult to straighten once bent sharply.

The joints made on small tubing are frequently in awkward positions inside equipment, which adds to the difficulty.

Where a small tube joint is critical, such as on a capillary or a control line, taking time over the preparation is worthwhile, since a leak on a line of this size can be extremely difficult to locate afterward.

Confirm the tool suits the tube diameter and material, cut square, deburr carefully without deforming the tube, and inspect the finished swage closely for splits before brazing.
