Uniweld Acetylene Regulator RMC2

The Uniweld RMC2 is an acetylene regulator for MC size cylinders used with air acetylene torch equipment.

Matching a regulator to the cylinder is a requirement rather than a preference, and the cylinder connection is the first thing to confirm.

Different cylinder sizes within the acetylene range use different valve connections, and a regulator intended for one will not fit another. Attempting to adapt between them defeats a keying arrangement that exists for safety reasons.

Fuel gas connections use left hand threads throughout, distinguishing them from oxygen and inert gases. The convention is visible as a notch cut into the nut on many fittings.

The withdrawal rate limit applies to the cylinder rather than the regulator, and it is proportional to cylinder size. An MC cylinder is small, so its permissible withdrawal rate is correspondingly low, and drawing gas faster than that limit pulls acetone out of the cylinder along with the acetylene. That damages equipment, produces a poor flame, and permanently reduces the cylinder's capacity.

Using a tip that demands more gas than the cylinder can supply is how this occurs in practice.

Acetylene must never be used above its specified maximum working pressure, and cylinders must be used and stored upright.

Confirm the regulator matches the cylinder connection and size, respect the pressure and withdrawal limits, and leak test connections with soap solution before lighting.
