Product Highlights
Description
The Harris 601-15-200A is an acetylene regulator for controlling fuel gas pressure from acetylene cylinders.
Acetylene regulators are specific to acetylene and are not interchangeable with regulators for other gases.
The cylinder connection differs, deliberately, so that a regulator for one gas cannot be fitted to a cylinder of another. Fuel gas connections use left hand threads, distinguishing them from oxygen and inert gas connections which use right hand threads. This keying is a safety feature and must not be defeated with adapters.
The pressure range also differs. Acetylene must not be used above a specified maximum working pressure, because above that pressure it becomes unstable and can decompose explosively without oxygen present. An acetylene regulator is built so that its adjustment range does not exceed that limit.
Using a regulator with a higher range on acetylene removes that protection.
Regulator condition matters. A regulator that creeps, meaning the outlet pressure rises when the torch is closed, has an internal fault and must be taken out of service, since it can allow pressure to rise beyond the safe limit.
Oil and grease must be kept away from all gas equipment.
Confirm the regulator is designated for acetylene, that the cylinder connection matches, and that the working pressure range respects the acetylene limit. Leak test connections with soap solution before lighting, and never exceed the specified maximum working pressure.
